Coco Peat Briquettes are small sized coco peat blocks, available in three standard weights – 650 gm, 500 gm, 315 gm & 250gm, expanding when hydrated to yield a volume of about 3 to 10 litres as mentioned in the Briquette Specification chart below. Unlike the regular 5 Kg blocks, these briquettes are considerably small in size and weight. Consequently, they are much easier to handle and are ideal for use by home gardeners and hobby growers. Usually shrink-wrapped with label, these Coco Peat Briquettes are targeted for retail markets fro sale in chain stores and garden centres.

Coco Peat is the non-fibrous, spongy, light weight, corky material that holds together the coir fibre in coconut husk. It was in early 90’s that the horticultural use of coco peat was discovered and the material demand has been in the rise ever since. Globally known by the name Coco Peat, they are also known as Coco Coir in the US and Coir Pith in the Middle-East. It is a 100% organic, natural and bio-degradable substance which was the by-product of Coconut Fibre Extraction process, but not any more. It is now the co-product of coconut fibre extraction process.
Thanks to the spongy structure, coco peat is very good at holding moisture and nutrients in its pores and release them to the plant roots as and when they need it, there by preventing the leaching of valuable nutrients and fertilisers out of the substrate.
There is this notion among growers that Coco Peat has high salt content. Yes, it does, in its natural form. Coco peat, being extracted from the coconut husks, are greatly affected by the soil conditions of the area from where they are being harvested. Coconut being naturally occurring in abundant along the sea shores, generally in soil with high salt content, coco peat in its natural form will be high in salt content.
At Fibre Family, we source the coconut husk only from plantations grown in-land, completely from in-and-around the Coconut City of Pollachi, Tamil Nadu. The selection of coconut husk and our processing methodology contributes greatly towards lowering the salt content in our coco peat. For comparison, when the EC of fresh coco peat generally reads from 2 to 3 mS/cm, the EC of our non-processed, fresh coco peat is as low as 1.3-1.5 mS/cm. We then wash the coco peat in fresh water to lower the salt content even further below 0.5 mS/cm, there-by making it ideal for the growth of plants.
Advantages of Coco Peat

Fibre Family had a stall at IPM Essen, 2017, along with the Coir Board (Govt. Of India). It truly is the world’s leading horticulture trade fare, where you can get to know about the latest advancements in horticulture. IPM Essen turned out to be a really good trade fair for Fibre Family, meeting new buyers and clients, promoting Fibre Family substrates and lot more. Thanks to every one who visited our stall and looking forward to new clients in Europe and East Asia.
